Mario Testino: Fashion Photographs
Fashion Photographs
In 1998 a collection of Mario Testino’s fashion photographs went on display at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in São Paulo. In his photographs, Testino combines variations in lighting and composition to create a fervent synthesis of expression based on the unique character of his subjects. "Mario Testino, Fashion Photographs" was curated as a captivating inventory of people, places, and events.
The Exhibition
Testino’s celebration of existence is a radical shift from the original usage of cameras, which were used as instruments of control and surveillance to record and incriminate revolutionaries in the 1871 Commune of Paris. Through his portraits, campaigns, magazine editorial shoots and personal projects, the ‘photograph’ becomes a metaphor for liberty. The works displayed in this exhibition brought to life a profound fragmentation of the ephemeral. Testino’s images capture and focus our attention on the passage of human life.
