VOGUE CHINA SPECIAL EDITION

Editor Angelica Cheung invited Mario Testino to guest edit and shoot every fashion story for the special 100th issue of Vogue China. For Cheung, Testino has been one of the first Western photographers to understand how to capture modern fashion and beauty in China.

The issue is an ode to the Chinese woman as seen through Testino’s lens. It includes model Shi He photographed at The Summer Palace – a Beijing landmark and holiday haven of the Qing Dynasty – wearing fifties inspired clothes. Actress Shu Qi covers the edition in a story that reinterprets Audrey Hepburn’s classic, iconic style. The issue features only Chinese talent and is a blending of both the country’s enchanting traditions and enthralling future.

Testino has been invited to creative direct and photograph numerous special editions of Vogue magazine to date. Testino works closely with the respective editors of each title to develop a theme that will dictate everything inside the issue. With the support of his team at MARIOTESTINO+, he conceives a bespoke treatment to the art direction, applying conceptual typography and a unique layout appropriate to each theme. Themes have included Sex, The Body, Blondes and Obsession
